What is an Irrevocable Trust?
An Irrevocable Trust is a safe haven for assets that we create together. Much like any type of Trust, think of it as a bucket. When we fill the bucket with assets, such as your home, you no longer own those assets—the Trust does.
Since the State can only review your asset history over the 5-year period leading up to your Medicaid application date, we can use this tool to ensure (or give us the best chance) that you never have to report historical ownership of your home. The result—these assets remain available for your family, while you still qualify for programs that will pay for your otherwise very expensive care needs!
Benefits of Irrevocable Trust
Start the Medicaid clock
Moving assets into an Irrevocable Trust triggers the Medicaid "look-back" period, protecting your estate from being drained by long-term care costs.
Secure assets, preserve intent
Placing assets in an Irrevocable Trust shields them from creditors and estate taxes by removing them from your personal ownership.
Protect beyond a basic plan
Assets in an Irrevocable Trust typically avoid probate and are better insulated from lawsuits, divorces, or financial disputes.
Do right by the people who matter most.
